We are all aware of the poor state of the farmers in the country which is one of the biggest reasons that when a girl child is born in a farmer’s family, it is seen as a curse rather than it being perceived as a blessing. That’s because the poor family of the farmer is unable to bear the burden of a girl child with the limited means that they have. Keeping all this in mind the government of the Maharashtra state has come up with a new scheme known as the Maharashtra Kanya Van Samruddhi Yojana- Free Plants on Birth of Girls in Farmers Family. From the name of the scheme itself, it can be very well understood that the farmer’s family will be given free saplings when there is a girl child born in the family. The saplings will be provided by the government to the farmer so that he can use it for plantation.
According to the scheme, 10 free saplings will be provided to the farmer’s family when there is a girl child born. This will help the farmers to get a source of income which they can avail by planting those free saplings. Jackfruit, teak, mango, tamarind and many other such useful plants are included in the list. Saplings of the mentioned trees will be provided to the farmer’s family free of cost so that the income generated from the plantation of these trees can be used to raise the girl child. The income can be used for the education and the welfare of the girl child. This is a great initiative taken by the government of Maharashtra in order to improve the condition of both the farmers and the girls born into their family.
Important Features of the Kanya Van Samruddhi Yojana
The mentioned scheme has comes with a lot of important features as well which are all listed below.
- According to this scheme, the government will provide absolutely free sapling to the family of the farmer on the birth of a girl child.
- Each of the farmers will receive 10 free saplings which they can use for plantation and thus, generate an income from it.
- The farmers are required to plant the free saplings between 1st July and 7th July.
- The income generated from the free saplings is to be used for the welfare of the girl child. Like for instance, the income earned can be used for her studies and also for her future.
- The free saplings that will be provided by the government will be of different variety which will include teak, jackfruit, mango, tamarind and black plum.
- Farmers can avail this particular benefit for a maximum of 2 girl child born in their family.

How to Apply For the Kanya Van Samruddhi Yojana?
According to this scheme, any farmer in the state of Maharashtra can apply for this scheme provided that they have a girl child born between 1st April and 31st March. In order to apply for the following scheme, the farmer is required to visit the gram panchayat after which they will be given the 10 free saplings totally free of cost from the forest department.
Once the farmer receives the free saplings they are required to plant them between the time period of 1st July and 7th July.
The income earned from the plantation of these free saplings is expected to be utilized in the welfare of the girl child born.
According to the statement of an official, it is expected that over 1 lakh farmers are to be benefitted from this scheme. Not only that, but it will also encourage the farmers not to discriminate between a girl child and a boy child. This is a very helpful scheme that has been launched by the government of Maharashtra. With the help of this scheme, the government will be able to safeguard the future and the life of thousands if girl child born in these poor families. Other than that the free saplings will also provide a source of good income for the farmer’s family with the help of which he can run his family. However, one should keep in mind that this scheme is extended only up to 2 girl child in a single family.
